How dark are these winter mornings? I don’t know about you, but getting up in the cold and dark is no fun at all. I am luckier than most in that I can sleep until I wake up, and when I see how beautiful and clear a winter’s day is, it must be enjoyed.

Today Franschoek was the obvious choice. Alice joined me and we drove through to Franschoek, enjoying the sun, toasty warm inside the car. The views are so amazing in the Franschoek Valley and today was no exception. The sky was clear with a hint of clouds on the mountains and there was a crisp breeze.

A stroll down Franschoek’s main street is not complete unless you head into Masquerade. This shop has the most amazing goodies for your house. I never leave empty handed. And I didn’t. My stash … funky birthday cards, cool wall hooks (which the Pink Handyman will have to hang for me), a nifty little tealight bag and rose & rose geranium roomspray.

Our next stop was Colmant, the home of the awesomest MCC. A little bubbly was tasted and a little bubbly was purchased. Naturally. Oh … and the folks there are so cool that they gave me a coolerbag, one of those nifty “ice buckets” and a bottle stopper. Score!

After a quick stop at Graham Beck to pick up bubbly for Alice’s friend, we went in search of lunch. On Alice’s recommendation we decided to have lunch at Fyndraai Restaurant at Solms Delta … great idea. We had a table on the porch, with a view of the surrounding mountains and enjoyed lunch to the sound of the wind whistling through the trees.

Last stop, Rupert & Rothschild … very snazzy. As you drive up, someone is waiting to escort you into the tasting room. A quick purchase and a few photos of the beautiful surrounds and we sadly had to head back home.

Such a chill day. Such beautiful views, good food and company. I hope you get to enjoy one like it soon.
